Hope 4 Haiti
Michael Atherton, born in Galveston, Texas in 1962, never dreamed that he would end up as a senior pastor and seasoned minister of twenty-five years. He grew up in a traditional church setting, but as a teenager his personal encounter with God led him to a crossroads that resulted in kingdom service to God. In 1980 he left home to go to school and prepare for ministry, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Upon graduation, Michael and his wife Kim ministered on the mission field and worked in youth ministry. God spoke to them on the mission field and said your calling is in America. Michael and Kim returned to America and began a church with a small group of people. Today this work has grown to encompass regular services, outside speaking engagements, childrens ministry, and youth ministry, to name a few. His teaching and preaching is marked by a freshness from God that is real, practical, and full of hope. He, his wife Kim, and their three children currently reside in Wharton County, just southwest of Houston, Texas.

We Believe...
The Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God upon which our faith and doctrine are founded. It is the authority on everything pertaining to life and death. (2 Tim. 3:16)
God is one and He exists in three persons--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
(Phil. 2:6, John 16:28, John 15:26)
Jesus Christ died on the cross, shed His blood for our sins, and three days later rose from the dead thus conquering death. We are saved by grace when we place our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9,10)
In receiving communion in remembrance of what Christ did for us at the cross.
(Matt. 26:26-28, Luke 22:19-20)
Water baptism is a commandment from Christ to all believers. It is an outward sign of an inward change and a symbol of a Christians identification with Christs death, burial, and resurrection. (Matt. 28:19, Romans 6:4)
The baptism in the Holy Spirit is a gift from God to all believers and is received subsequent to the new birth. It is available to all Christians today. (Matt. 3:11, Acts 2:38-39)
In divine healing--the prayer of faith and the laying on of hands.
(James 5:14-15, Mark 16:18, Isaiah 53:4-5, 1 Peter 2:24)
In the second coming of Jesus Christ. (Acts 1:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
There is a heaven and a hell. Heaven is reserved for those who accept Christ and Hell for those who reject Him. (Heb. 9:27; Rev. 19:20)
That every Christian should belong to and remain plugged in to the local church. It is a place of covering. It is also the place God will use to speak things into a persons life that will provide direction, growth, and blessings. (Heb. 10:24-25, Matt. 16:18)
Intern Program
We are so excited about what God is doing at Christ is Life Church and DRIVEN Youth Ministry. The CILC/DRIVEN INTERN program was birthed to provide assistance to the existing Church staff. This program was not only designed to be a blessing to the church, but to the Intern as well. This is an opportunity for our interns to use their gifts and talents for the Kingdom. Be assured that our interns will be blessed beyond measure as they serve and minister to this generation.

What is the purpose of the fast?We are choosing to fast together like Daniel did. He made a decision not to eat the king's food as an outward symbol of an inward commitment he had made to God. Let your choices over the next two weeks reflect the hunger you have for God's presence in your life. Why should I participate in the fast?God is certain to bless your life in new and exciting ways during the fast. We encourage you to write down your prayers and the many ways God reveals Himself to you. We can't wait to see what God is going to do in your life and in the life of our church! How strict should I be with what I eat on the fast? The list of foods we've provided is merely a first step to get you thinking about making better food choices. Remember, this fast is about growing your relationship with God. And He's not as concerned about what is in your stomach as He is about what is in your heart. Can I eat foods that are not specifically listed? If you are not sure about a certain food, ask God to reveal to you whether it should be part of your diet over the next few weeks. Since there is no definitive list of foods for the Daniel Diet, it is truly the spirit of Daniel's decision that we are imitating over the next 20 days. What about children? We have eliminated sugar, bread and most dairy from our children's diet. They are having whole wheat pasta and soy milk. Mostly, they eat what we eat, but we have included chicken for them in some meals. We have found that they have been more open to new foods when we fast together. It has been exciting to see them help plan meals and enjoy more fruits and vegetables, some of which they have never tried before. What if I have concerns about participating because of my health? If you have any condition that would prohibit you from being a part of the Daniel Fast, you can participate in a different way. Choose something from your daily routine (i.e. specific foods or beverages, television, other technology, etc.) and fast in that manner for the next 14 days. Remember, the details are not as important as the spirit in which you participate.
